I had the distinct pleasure of seeing Mr. Tony Bennett again, not only on stage and fabulous, as always, at the JAS Aspen June festival at the Benedict Music Tent, but was thrilled to be invited backstage with my friend, Jill Ginn, who I invited to join me for the special evening. I met Tony in September of 1999 when I was a concierge at the St. Regis Aspen. I handed him the sheet music for his show at the Wheeler and so enjoyed making his stay comfortable and pleasant for the week he was with us, culminating in being invited to his private concert at the Wheeler Opera House where he dedicated my favorite Tony Bennett song, “When Joanna Loved Me” just to me. I was on cloud 9! I have since been invited backstage to say hi, after every concert I’ve attended. I always feel so honored to be able to hear him sing, as if every song is directed to me. That’s his gift, being able to make everyone in the audience feel that way. Then, to be able to say hello for a moment or two after the show… that’s pure heaven! Thank you, Tony. Happy Birthday!
