Yesterday was the wrap up of the shows and in-store events.  Authier got a good review for its energy.  Unfortunately, I missed it due to the fact that the show went on much earlier than planned!  It’s kind of ironic, since all of them start at least 20-30 minutes late, which is more the the norm.  So a lot of us simply missed it…oh well, more room for photos from the kinetic KJUS show, with its fun mixing of colors, and innovative fabrics.  This year they produced a thin translucent cover layer for the dyed down that lay underneath…it’s even water resistant!   No more drowning in your down jacket during a snowstorm!  The showstopping finale show was Finnish designer Wille Rajola’s collection, called DUOHTAVUOHTA…don’t ask me how to pronounce it…. of the most fantasy-like creations using leather and fur,,,Finnish raccoon naturally…..jackets, coats and full length skirts, augmented by gala-ready crinolines.  His line reminds me of a princess from the remote northern regions of Scandanavia…coming out of her isolated castle to meet her prince…and doesn’t a girl always harbor some form of that dream in her heart?….Rajala’s line feeds into that fantasy with great opulence and glamour.  His are the perfect gowns to be married on stylish and majestic Aspen Mountain.  I heard that very comment from a few of the enraptured women at the end of the show….ah, yes.

Aspen Fashion Week is on…full blast!  Not only are the new ski fashions for 2012-13 free-riding down the runway, but the non-stop visceral beat provided by DJ Pesce fills the entire downtown Aspen area with a driving sound, keeping the mood upbeat and moving.  Yours truly can’t help but get up from her runway-side seat in between shows and dance to one of her fave tunes…yesterday was Motown, r&b, classic rock day…you know I loved it!   Oh, and the fashions were smoking too…In the first two days, we’ve seen Marmot, Neve, Pajar, Roots, and Skea among others on the snowstage at the ice rink downtown, with evening events at the St. Regis, tented venue, with flowing fashions by David Peck for his line CrOp….some photos now….more to follow.  I have to get to the snowstage for today’s shows from Authier and the finale by KJUS.  Enjoy…I certainly am!

Last night’s CCAH (Carbondale Council on Arts and Humanities) benefit for the public schools in Carbondale was a big success!  Students who receive only 45 minutes of arts education in their limited curriculum will now be able to receive after school art classes due to the generosity of the hundreds of attendees at this vibrant and most spirited fashion show and auction at the Carbondale rec center…a gym!  They strutted, they danced and we cheered!  It was a well-staged, choreographed event that surpassed most of the staid, emotion-less fashion shows I have ever seen….read more about it in my article in yesterday’s Aspen Daily News ….http://www.aspendailynews.com/section/entertainment/152220

As we all know, the X Games finished up in Aspen two weeks ago, and the Super Bowl was last Sunday.  But as your fashionista and tireless Burberry consultant  in Aspen, I can’t help but observe all the athletes wearing the classic, yet chic English designs around town.  I spotted AJ Eeds, linebacker for the Indianapolis Colts, donning his size 58 trench coat in the tony bar at the premier Little Nell hotel in Aspen during the X Games.  He certainly fills out the roomy raglan sleeves very well!

Next, Super Bowl winner Reggie Bush stopped in our store to pick up a coordinating wool muffler for his stunning charcoal grey peacoat, to keep him warm and toasty,  as he was reporting for ESPN as spokesperson for Red Bull, during the chilly late night wrap up for another thrilling X Games, as Shaun White took home yet another Gold Medal in the Superpipe, wearing his animal print pants, that our own seamstress at Burberry had to alter, to allow him the needed flexibility to accomplish his high-flying performance!  Bravo AJ, Reggie and Shaun!

It’s fun being one of the only fashion writers in the Rocky Mountains at moments like this, when the greatest, most well-known snowboard X Games and Olympic champion, Shaun White, creates as much of a stir….and stir it up he does… not only for his high flying feats on the Superpipe, but for what he wears doing it!  Read about it in today’s article.
