Great Gatsby Party in Aspen’s Historical Society’s Wheeler-Stallard House
On Sunday, all the swells showed up for their annual Great Gatsby party on the grounds of the Wheeler-Stallard House, home of Aspen’s Historical Society. It was a most appropriate setting since it was built around the same time that the author of “The Great Gatsby,” F.Scott Fitzgerald lived. It was a very lavish affair with the over two hundred guests dressed in perfect period summer garb. The men practically stole the show…as difficult as that is to admit…with their white linen suits, panama straw hats, knickers, bowties…and, of course, the always perfect tuxedo! Women donned glamorous chapeaus that could have come straight from the Kentucky Derby….and with our residents…probably did! Dropped waists, puff sleeves, pastel colors, even sequinned flapper dresses with lots of leg…how shocking! One statuesque guest even researched hair and make-up, as she slinked around in a bias cut gown, a short little black wig styled in a bob, kohl-rimmed eyes and a little beret – a perfect look-a-like of 20’s actress Louise Brooks. As the Veuve Cliquot flowed, guests dined on a sumptuous buffet, and we all kicked up our heels to every type of music from the Charleston to the cha-cha! Even the previously predicted rainstorms held off to provide the perfect sunny backdrop for another memorable summer afternoon in Aspen, Colorado.

Hi to my lovely readers….went to the Aspen Magazine Summer Party at the posh new Viceroy Hotel in Snowmass…
Hi to my lovely readers….went to the Aspen Magazine Summer Party last night at the posh new Viceroy Hotel in Snowmass…400 RSVP’d and all showed up and then some! Beautiful Aspen people in beautiful fashion, drinking the yummiest of cocktails, whiskeys and wines and eating the most delicious delicacies from mouth-watering sushi…I couldn’t stop…to organic vegies, meats and fish. Tom’s Shoes was sponsoring a world project, whereby every pair of shoes purchased would be matched with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need, One for One. This endeavor was inspired in 2006 by American traveler Blake Mycoskie who befriended children in a village in Argentina and found that they had no shoes to protect their feet. Wanting to help, he created Tom’s Shoes, a company that would match every pair of shoes purchased with a new pair of shoes to a child who needed them. The artists from the Anderson Ranch in Snowmass were painting these pretty and practical espadrilles to anyone who contributed….see their beautiful work in our photos. Food & Wine weekend is the official kick-off of the Aspen summer season. Saluta and bon appetit!

Aspen Fashion Week 2010
Check out my photo credit on The Daily Truffle – what an amazing week.
Hello world!
This is my blog, to let the world know that there is fashion in all forms up here at 8,000 feet…from ultra casual to couture…and we have all the stores to prove it! I’ve been the fashion columnist for the Aspen Daily News for the last five years….probably the only one in any ski town in America….another ‘only in Aspen’ for which we are known. You’ll be hearing from me all summer when i attend the parties, benefits, fashion shows and events that make our town as rare as the air we breathe.
